Poop To Make a Point

goes with bmm61-2

God has used many different and mundane resources to get my attention and make a point. He has used weeds to teach me lessons; solar lights to clarify His ways; and I am particularly fond of the time He used poop to teach me an important life lesson.

It all started when we got married. We found a home on over an acre of land. The back yard had not been taken care of and was covered in weeds. Well, I hate weeds! My solution was to clear the yard and then put weed blanket down and then cover that with tons of pea gravel. It was very hard physical work but the result was wonderful – no weeds! It was a beautiful sight – just a smooth layer of small rounded rock covering all the imperfections of ugly weeds and small patches of dead grass.

After I felt I had gained control of my weed problem, my stepdaughter asked if she could have a puppy. Her dad and I agreed as long as she stayed on top of poop patrol. She said she would.

Oh that puppy was adorable. Things were going great. Then one fine morning, after my “Wonder Woman Workout” of house cleaning, catching up the laundry and weed watching, I found all was right in my world. I opened up my bedroom window shades and surveyed my property. Instead of seeing the rich blessings of my home, all I saw was poop – numerous little mounds of it! I was enraged. How could this be? I work so hard to keep everything perfect. So, I immediately told Dan and got upset with him; it was his daughter, so he needed to make her take care of it. I was upset the rest of the day. Every thought, everywhere I looked, there was negativity – there was poop!

Now here is where God is amazing. He didn’t immediately resolve my situation. He let me wallow in my “poop pity party” for the whole day. The next morning as I was trying to get ready to go to a Bible study, God moved in my heart. I felt Him telling me where my focus is – what I see and hear – will lead me to feelings – which will lead to my expectations in life. It all made sense. I saw poop. I felt poopy. I let the whole day go to poop!

Psalm 123:1 says, “I lift my eyes to You, the One enthroned in heaven.” I wonder what the day might have looked like if I had looked to God – if I had lifted my eyes to Him. I probably would not have confronted my husband in an angry manner. I probably would have had a more positive day and been able to encourage others and be patient with them. I probably would have slept better that night – instead of going to bed upset.

Where are your eyes focused? Do you go through your day finding fault with everything and everyone? Are you frustrated most of the time? Are you infuriated with your family? May I humbly tell you that you need to lift your eyes.

Psalm 121:1-2 says, “I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Lift up your eyes!

Your focus can either lift you and your family to blessings, love and encouragement, or lead your feelings and family in a downward spiral.  Lift up your eyes!

Blessings in Your Blending!
