Today we are going to get tough! Mama K is in the house!! I’m sure you follow and read other blogs and books and such regarding stepmoms and re-marriages. We all try to encourage and provide positive steps for your journey. But today is ‘get a backbone’ type of day. I am concerned that we talk and teach ‘happy’ and ‘hang in there’, but don’t look at the reality of this life not being about smooth sailing and being happy. We are here for God and His purpose and His plan. He wants us to have peace and joy and contentment but we only know how to truly have those qualities after we have had the opposite … angst, sadness and discontentment. We have the perfect biblical example – Job.
In Job, Chapter 1, we read that Job had quite the life. He was an upright man and feared the Lord and turned away from evil. He was blessed with a fine family and much wealth. Next, we read that Satan was looking for something to do and God asked him to consider his servant Job. God told Satan he could have his way in all of Job’s life – except for Job himself.
Satan set about destroying everything Job had – including taking the lives of his children. Job’s response is incredible: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.” Where does your story fit in with Jobs? You have probably been stripped of precious things and people. What was your response to these losses?
Let’s continue on and look at Chapter 2. Again, Satan is ‘allowed’ to go after Job – to inflict bodily harm and yet not kill him. Job was covered in sores from head to toe. I can’t imagine the torment. Job’s wife was beside herself. She said to Job, “Are you still holding on to your integrity? Curse God and die!” Job responded, “Shall we accept good from God and not trouble?”
The book of Job ends with God giving him a piece of His mind. I love chapter 41:11: “Who has a claim against me that I must pay? Everything under heaven belongs to me.”
Listen ladies, your life here on this earth is but a blink of an eye. You can respond to the events in your life with hatred, contempt, maliciousness, and rage; or you can respond as knowing full well that God has you – He has allowed your very trials. He knows about them.
In light of this, you can choose to be steadfast where you are and pray for His deliverance or you can run and crumble under pressure. First Corinthians 10:13 says, “no temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.”
Stand. Don’t get discouraged and jump off the cliff. We have forgotten how to be still before the Lord and let Him fight the battle! He will strengthen your backbone and then go on to make your life victorious – even better than before.
Read the book of Job. We are no better than him. We are no different than him. God still allows Satan to mess with our lives. The comfort we find is knowing everything in our lives is sifted through our Father’s hands first. Satan is only allowed access to areas God has allowed. Let that sink into your heart and then when you face your next challenge/trial or temptation – just stand!
Blessings in Your Blending!
