I love to create – whether it be woodworking, crafts, or even home improvement projects. It’s funny how Dan usually has plans to be gone when I come up with those ideas! Nonetheless, it’s fun to be struck with an idea and actually have all the supplies needed to make the idea come to fruition. My goal is usually to make something prettier or more functional with tools already in my possession, therefore, the project is free. That always makes Dan happier!
I can bet you enjoy creating also. As a blended family mom, I already know that you have helped to create a marriage and now are working on creating this family. I know you have skills and courageousness, because you took on a big challenge when you said “I do” again – not only to your husband, but to his/yours and y’all’s children. As with any project, the right tools for the job make the work a bit easier. The time and effort is still required, but the frustration, confusion and doubt can be worked through when you are equipped with special tools for a special project.
Please allow me a minute to pass on some tools from my tool belt that have been a priceless addition to my life, marriage and family.
You first need good lighting. Whatever I am working on, I make sure I can see clearly. Psalm 119:105 says “Your Word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path.” Isaiah 2:5 says, “Let us walk in the light of the Lord.” Every time I have set out on my own without God, I have messed up. The work needed to be done to correct my mess was huge. The emotional guilt, the lives hurt, the relationships damaged, and my self-worth bashed was all due to taking a project on without allowing God to lead and shine His light on the project. I have learned some tough lessons, and now I make sure I have His light on my path. The Bible is and will always be the perfect light for your life. His light is sure and steadfast and never goes out or needs to be replaced.
Now that we have a light on the subject, you can use the next tool: obedience. It’s one thing to be able to see, but if there is no follow through, then there is no hope of success. Deuteronomy 5:33 tells us to “Walk in obedience to all that the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.” It is sad we are a people who do not want to be told what to do or how to do it. We have forgotten that following God and His guidelines keeps us safe and gives us freedom – rather than holding us in bondage. The bondage comes from when we disobey and then have the chains of sin strangling us and our families.
I believe that even though this is my second time to be a wife, the rules still apply. The ‘light’ of God’s word in Ephesians 5:21-22 says, “Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.” Now from this light, I have a choice to be obedient or go my own way. I want a successful marriage and family. I want a marriage and family that will last. Get some light on your family and then choose to be obedient to that light. You already have the tools, and they are free!
Blessings in Your Blending!
