Be Thankful

No matter what season of life you are in, be thankful. The season may be difficult, but just wait; God works in every season, and every situation, and then before you know it, the season changes. The key is to be joyful and keep praying. Now I’m not talking about a temporary happiness; I’m talking about a knowledge down deep in your gut that God has you and will “finish the good work” (Philippians 1:6) He has already started in you! When you can walk in uncertainty into the future because you know who holds the future – that is joy! And that is something to be very thankful for.

Today, I want to encourage you to be thankful, notice the change in the air, enjoy a pumpkin spice latte, or make an autumn wreath, relishing the beauty of the fall colors God painted at the very creation of the world. Say “Thank You” to God.

Find ways to be thankful for your husband, and then tell him! Write a note sharing how thankful you are about how he provides for you and your family; send a text thanking him for how he loves you. Say “thank you” to him.

Find ways to be thankful for each child in your family, and then tell them! If you are in a tough place in your blended family, you may have to search far and wide to find something to be thankful for, but I know you can! You could make note cards with fun stickers on them – or do candy grams. The important thing is for you to say “thank you” to them.

Find things to be thankful for – about you! God has given you many gifts and talents, attitudes, and actions. Get a notepad or journal and jot down a couple of the things you are thankful for and how they help you as a wife and mom in this blended family.

In life, the key is to be on the lookout for things to be thankful for. Proverbs 4:23 says, “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.” Vigilance means to keep careful watch for possible danger or difficulties. In other words, guard your heart! You want to protect it and fill it with good things, because as Matthew 12:34 says, “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”

As a wife and mom in your family, you have tremendous potential to set the tone in your home. Will it be a positive season of change that brings beauty and smiles? Give this thankfulness thing a try. Remember, where your focus is, your heart follows. So be thankful!
